As a fan of the original Mortal Kombat movie as well as the first several games, I can say that I am excited about this video. At first I thought it may well be a fan made trailer for a movie never to exist except that it has some actors in it that are at least slightly well known. Then a friend pointed out a post on Chud.com that told more of the story.

Apparently it is a proof of concept trailer to show movie production companies that they can do something new and fresh with this franchise. Some people think they are just doing some sort of live action ARG for a new game to be revealed at E3 next week. Either way it looks pretty gritty and takes the MK story in a different yet interesting direction. I am all for it which ever the out come may be.

The of course now there is this, recently released trailer for the new Mortal Kombat game. Being developed by NetherRealm Studios, headed up by series creator and creative director Ed Boon (Yay!) the new game is simply being referred to as of now as just “Mortal Kombat”. I hope it stays that way, just to signify that they are getting back to their roots. It looks like they are using the same play style that the most recent SF games did. That being fighting on a 2D plane and the camera pans around making it more cinematic. Can’t wait.
